Ojai prints find placement in Portugal

Kismet struck Ojai Studio Artist Leslie Plimpton earlier this year when, seemingly out of the blue, she was recruited via email to exhibit artwork in the XI Biennial International Printmaking Exhibition in Portugal’s Douro Valley this summer — a UNESCO-certified World Heritage Site. After much deliberation, she opted to contribute some of her work, which has now found a permanent home oceans away. Read the full article here.

“The two pieces I sent to the exhibition are from my series, ‘Portraits in Fashion,’ which is a series of portraits of famous fashion designers,” Plimpton said. Both pieces will be donated to the Douro Museum’s printmaking collection in Peso da Régua, Portugal, later this year.

Convergence of craft

This weekend in Ridgway an exhibit opens that is not only by an artist, but about a group of artists whose creations have made our lives easier.

Titled “Portraits in Fashion,” it’s at the 610 Arts Collective. Its subject: famous fashion designers,

“some current, some past,” as artist Leslie Plimpton puts it, “who have either changed the direction of fashion or changed how we live our lives as a result of the designs they created.”

Artwork Included in Molly Barnes’ Collection

I am excited to share that my artwork appeared in a national magazine! The February 2019 edition of American Art Collector featured an article about the art collection of Molly Barnes, a longtime gallery owner in Los Angeles and a well-known artists’ representative in New York and L.A.

Some time ago, Molly and her friend Kitty Bartholomew purchased a pair of my glazed ceramic shoes (actually, flip-flop sandals). The article includes extensive photos of her home and her incredible art collection.

The spread includes two photos of her cocktail table, and right there, on top of her art books, is my ceramic piece. What blew me away was realizing I didn’t know my work was sitting in the same room as pieces by Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol, Willem de Kooning, and other iconic artists. What incredible company to be displayed in—I feel truly honored.

Printmakers make great impressions

Ink may stain their fingers, but these printmakers don’t mind getting their hands dirty to create clean, crisp images that are pressed on paper. The inkspots, Ventura County’s only fine art printmaking group, will exhibit new works at 643 A Project Space in Ventura from Nov. 4-26. Meet the artists and see the presses at the opening reception Friday during First Friday’s Ventura gallery crawl from 5-8 p.m. Read the full article here.
